upstart crow collective was co-founded by Betsy Schwartz, Kate Wisniewski and Rosa Joshi in 2006. We are dedicated to producing classical works with all-female casts for contemporary audiences. Focused on telling story and living characters honestly on stage, our work is text centered and visually imaginative.
We've presented three critically acclaimed productions of Shakespeare plays: Bring Down the House (an adaptation of the Henry VI plays, produced with Seattle Shakespeare Company) in 2017, Titus Andronicus in 2012 and King John in 2006.

We are thrilled and honored to announce that Bring Down The House received five awards at Seattle's 2017 Gregory Awards Ceremony including Outstanding Production. As we reflect on our incredible evening at the Gregory, upstart crow collective wants to thank EVERY woman who has worked with us: especially those of you who were in our productions before we got a major theatre to collaborate with us, who worked for a cut of the box office, who believed in the work and helped shape who we are today. You are amazing and we love you. You can see a list of every artist who has worked with upstart crow collective on our About Us page.
